Guidelines for Authors

 

Professional edition "Chornomorski Botanical Journal" publishes material on all aspects of botany, mycology and lichenology, fitoecology, geobotany, plant geography, history, flora and vegetation, the evolution of flora, flora protection, protected areas, resources studying, introductions, methods of botanical researches, history of botanical science.

Manuscript Submission. Manuscripts must be original, clearly and precisely presented in Ukrainianor English. Materials submitted must be send by mail to the address:  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. The Editors don't charge any author fee for manuscripts submitting, reviewing and publication.

 

Scope. Articles of the review, analytical, experimental and research nature, botanical reports, mycological, lihenological discoveries, annotated lists of species of plants, fungi and lichens, detailed tables of geobotanical descriptions are accepted for printing.

 

Publication Ethics

            1.1 Publication and authorship

- All submitted papers are subject to strict peer-review process by at least two international reviewers that are experts in the area of the particular paper;

- the possible decisions include acceptance, acceptance with revisions, or rejection;

- if authors are encouraged to revise and resubmit a submission, there is no guarantee that the revised submission will be accepted;

- no copyright infringement, plagiarism or presentation of fraudulent data is allowed;

- no same research can be published in more than one journal;

- all papers include a list of references and, if applicable, a list of financial supporters.

 

1.2 Authors' responsibilities

- Authors must certify that their manuscripts are their original work;

- authors must certify that the manuscript has not previously been published elsewhere;

- authors must certify that the manuscript is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere;

- authors are obliged to participate in the peer review process;

- authors are obliged to provide retractions or corrections of mistakes;

- authors must notify the Editors of any conflicts of interest;

- authors must identify all sources used in the creation of their manuscript.

 

1.3 Reviewers' responsibilities

- Reviewers should keep all information regarding papers confidential and treat them as privileged information;

- reviews should be conducted objectively, with no personal criticism of the author;

- reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments;

- reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the author;

- reviewers should also call to the Editor attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper;

- reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

 

1.4  Editors' responsibilities

- Editors have complete responsibility and authority to reject/accept an article;

- editors should guarantee the quality of the papers and the integrity of the academic record;

- editors should base their decisions solely one the papers' importance, originality, clarity and relevance to publication's scope;

- editors should not reverse their decisions nor overturn the ones of previous editors without serious reason;

- editors should preserve the anonymity of reviewers;

- editors should ensure that all research material they publish conforms to internationally accepted ethical guidelines;

- editors should not allow any conflicts of interest between staff, authors, reviewers and board members.

 

Peer Review Process. All submitted materials pass to two anonymous reviewer. There are experts from their research areas that have been publishing contribution in international journals for the last three years. Review process will be held following few step:

-          Submitted the manuscript;

-          peer-review process;

-          manuscript correction after peer-review;

-          make answer for reviewer;

-          acceptance manuscript.

All materials are kept in Editorial Office for 5 years.

 

Manuscript format. Articles are published in Ukrainian; in English  – after the agreement with editorial board. Volume of articles is up to 20 full pages (more than 20 pages – in agreement with the Editorial board), other (short reports, chronicle of scientific life, anniversaries, conferences’ resolution, etc.) – up to 5 full pages.

The electronic version of the article should be typed on a computer in a text editor MsWord 2003-2007, compatible with the operating system Windows XP, on a sheet of A4 (standard) font Times New Roman, line spacing 1.0 (standard), without hyphenation. Pages boundaries: 30 mm left, right and bottom – 20 mm, top – 25 mm.

The article must include the following parts:

Abstract. Contains specific examples of researches (1800 signs for each). The keywords should not repeat the title of the article;

Introduction. In this section scientific problems are formulated which are determined by its relevance, key publications and studies are discussed here (optional links to publications on the corresponding subject, which were published in the past 10 years), current views on the issue, the problems of development of the issue, unresolved issues within the problem are also highlighted then the aim of the article (study) is formulated, which differs from the basic views on the issue, or supplements and /or enhances already known approaches. Special attention should be paid by the authors to the introduction to the science of new facts, conclusions, recommendations and patterns, or clarification of the previously known but insufficiently studied data;

Research Methods (or Materials and methods). The methods by which the evidence was obtained, especially their treatment and the analyzes are explained here;

Results and discussion (if necessary, it can be separated in two parts). The actual content of the study, its basic position and results, personal ideas, thoughts, obtained scientific findings, patterns and so on., i.e. the contribution of the author in achievements and implementation of the main conclusions;

Conclusions. The conclusions on the meaning and importance of published materials for the theory and practice, their social meaning are stated briefly, future prospects for the development of this area are also outlined here.

Author’s address.

 

Annotated lists, new records and another lists of species (which are not on table form). Only the genus names are written in small capital letters. The next species in the list is presented with a shortened to the first letter. Lists are submitted without breakdown on taxa of over the species level (family, order, class ets.).

 

Latin names of taxa and syntaxes are written in italics. The authors of taxon are written only at the first mention in the text. If the authors of syntaxes are more than two write only the first author further 'et al.` and the year of publication. The authors of taxa and syntaxes do not mention in the summary.

 

Tables. Tables should be clear and informative, not overburdening the article. The reference in the text should be presented as follows (Table 1). The table text itself is made up of 9 Times New Roman.

 

Phytocoenotic tables. They are placed at the end of the article as additional materials and should contain no more than 15 releves. The page must have landscape (horizontal) orientation. The table text itself is made up of 9 Times New Roman. Decoding of the labels of descriptions is given below table.

 

Figures. Refer to all drawings, diagrams, graphs and photographs as figures. They must be clear, balanced and have an expansion of at least 300 dpi. The figures must be sent in a separate .jpeg (.jpg) file and duly signed. If the figures are in the table form their numbering is done from the upper left corner from left to right using the uppercase letters of the English alphabet.

 

References. References in the text should be submitted as follows: [Khodosovtsev, 1999], [Boiko, Khodosovtsev, 2006], [Boiko et al., 2013]. Several references are placed in chronological order. When papers are by three or more authors, give only the name of the first author followed by “et al.” [Boiko et al., 2013]. At the end of the text, list the references alphabetically using the following standard forms:

All authors of reference should be given. The title of the article written only in Latin (English, German, French, etc.) in accordance with the summary of the quoted work. The title of the work should be transliterated if the such a resume is absent.
